Glossary

Accreditation – credentials held by a school that demonstrate that the education it provides meets certain high standards of quality.
Associate’s Degree – a college degree that normally takes between two and three years to complete, as opposed to a bachelor’s degree, which usually takes four years to complete

DANB CDA Exam – a test provided by the Dental Assisting National Board, Inc. Dental assistants who successfully pass this exam earn national certification.

Dental Assistant – a dental team member whose responsibilities vary according to where he or she lives and works. Generally, dental assistants help a dentist treat patients by handing over tools during a dental procedure, ensuring patients stay comfortable as they receive dental care. Dental assistants can take on other general office tasks to help a practice run smoothly.

Dental Hygienist – a member of the dental team who works in conjunction with the dentist to provide oral health care. Many dental assistants continue their education and move on to become dental hygienists.
